The latest edition of Famitsu Magazine has shown some concept art for Monster Hunter 4. It also sheds some light on changes in the game series.
Water area’s from 3 are gone and have been replaced with differences in altitude mattering during a battle.
Rumor’s suggest that areas in the hunting ground will wear over time and create a ever changing hunting ground.
Hunters can now jump and grab.
Huge selection of new weapons and armor
Largest Cast to date of NPCs in a Monster Hunter game.
AI in the game has also gotten a over haul and we expect to see some better work from both companion’s and monsters.
Cha Cha is gone and Felyne’s (Up to 2) are back as your companions.
4 player local play is confirmed, but no word on any online play yet.
Check out some of the concept art that has been floating around.

looks great…pumped
need to buy jap 3ds for this.
now that there are going to be 2 Japanese monster hunter games..it makes more sense to buy a Japanese 3ds now
Even though I am pretty pissed about the whole 3DS and the japan-only thing…
This game looks awesome!! A moving village in the form of a caravan? Yes please!
but still no sense of buying it since you cant understand it. but if you’re really a fan, damn i am, you would translate the items one by one through the internet and that’s crazy. but still i want play this games, not on 3ds, but on vita.
If this doesn’t come stateside I am officially done with M.H. I’ve accepted the fact that they’re sticking with Nintendo (called that one a long time ago), but I am not importing this sh*t anymore.
Now it makes sense to me why they got rid of the water battles, it’s tematic to like wild west stuff, everything is going to be like plains, desert, and stuff, and caves o yes please!! loooooong caves to explore heheheheh.
I think we are better of learning japanesse to get this stuff early i’m considering it hell!!! english is not my first lenguage i can learn a third one heheehe may as well be NIHONGO!!!
Still hopeful on a western release. Call me a dreamer but hey what can I say. I am disappointed in the lack of water combat though. To me this seems like a step back in progress in the series and not an advancement.
As elchele said the game will most probably have a wild west kind of theme , with deserts and plains. Tri was based on a sea-side town and actually the underwater was it’s major “thing”.
On the other hand , mh4 seemed like a combination of all the mh games so far , having monsters from both 2nd and 3rd gen while also introducing new elements. Why they would take out a mechanic that they were able to have on a 3ds (since they did it with 3g) I dont know :<
If one already owns a JP 3DS they can watch that new trailer in glorious 3D on the e-Shop.
At thought just occured to me…… does this remind anyone else of “Crystal Caravan?”
Must resist the urge to buy a Japanese 3DS… Must resist… I will resist buying a Japanese 3DS… Okay, I’m really considering it now… I wanna play a new mh game! mh3g and mh4 both on the system… I must buy a Japanese 3DS.
